Adam Michael Murphy, affectionately known as "Murph," was born on December 25, 1980, in Steubenville, Ohio. He passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025, in Weirton, West Virginia, leaving behind a legacy enriched by family, faith, and a profound love for the game of football.
Adam was a dedicated professional who worked as a Coder at WVU Medicine. His educational background included an associate's degree in Health Management and Coding. Throughout his career, Adam was valued for his loyalty and commitment, traits that also defined his personal life.
Family was at the core of Adam's existence. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa Renee (Marquette) Murphy; his father, Patrick "Boobie" Murphy; and his mother, Gina Marie Murphy (fiance Mike Reynard). He was a devoted father to his daughter, Brooklynn Kendal Murphy, and a caring stepfather to his three stepsons, Devin, Darren, and Braden Myers. Adam shared a close bond with his two sisters, Megan (Scott) West of Uniontown, Ohio, and Hayley Reynard of Dillonvale. He also leaves behind a cherished grandmother, Betty Dennis, of Wintersville, Ohio, along with his two nieces and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Adam's passion for football was a significant part of his life. He was an avid Notre Dame Football fan! He took pride in his long-standing commitment to the sport, serving as an assistant coach for the semi-professional team, The Quips, in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, as well as the University of Akron’s football program. Since 2018, he officiated football games in Ohio and West Virginia, serving on the West Virginia Board of Refereeing and having a team participate in the prestigious Super Six at Wheeling Island. His love for the game extended beyond the field, embodying values of teamwork, faithfulness, and dedication.
Adam's devotion to Christ was evident through his daily practice of the rosary and his unwavering faith. He was a proud member of St. Joseph the Worker in Weirton. A big fan of Bruce Springsteen, he created unforgettable memories with his wife as they would drive to Asbury Park, New Jersey, to partake in the lively Springsteen parties.
As a true hometown hero, Adam was deeply proud of his roots in Mingo Junction, Ohio. His loyal nature not only resonated with family and friends but also made him a respected figure in his community.
Adam Michael Murphy will be remembered not just for his professional achievements, but for his warm spirit, devotion to family, and the lasting impact he made in people's lives. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Services will be on Saturday February 1, 2025 at St. Joseph the Worker at 229 California Ave, Weirton, WV 26062 with an hour of visitation from 10 am until time of his Mass at 11 am with Father Dennis Schuelkens, Jr. Celebrant. The family would like to thank Valley Hospice for their excellent care during this time. Schuetz Funeral Home is assisting the family.
