JOSEPH CHARLES “CHUCK” LOOMAN, SR

February 23, 1937 – March 31, 2015

Family and friends mourn the loss of Joseph Charles “Chuck” Looman, Sr. who passed peacefully at his home, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, March 31, 2015.  He was 78 years old.  Chuck was born in Moundsville, West Virginia on February 23, 1937 before moving to Mingo Junction, Ohio with his family in 1952.

A devout Catholic, he was a long time, active, parishioner of Saint Agnes Catholic Church of Mingo Junction, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and generously volunteered his time in various Church programs and projects.  Chuck graduated from Mingo Junction High School in 1955.  A veteran, he enlisted in the Marine Corps where he served from January 1956-March 1962.  After returning home, he married Elizabeth F. (Takach) Looman in 1960, his loving wife of more than 55 years, and had four children.  Chuck was employed by Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel for nearly 40 years.

Chuck will be most remembered as a faithful Catholic, a loving husband, and a dedicated father who, together with his wife, taught his children deep moral values, family love and a strong work ethic.  His love of farming and sports were also paramount in his life.  All who knew Chuck Looman recognized that he would grow and share the tastiest vegetables, fix just about anything that needed fixing, and was one of Catholic Central High School and The University of Notre Dame’s most dedicated and faithful fans.  He rooted for all of their sports teams, especially football.  His treasured collection of Notre Dame sports attire and paraphernalia maintained a prominent presence inside and outside of his home and truck. Rarely was Chuck seen not wearing at least one or two clothing items supporting his cherished “Irish”.

Mr. Looman is predeceased by his parents, Anna Laura (Baker) Looman and Dale Looman, his brother Kenneth “Butch” Looman and sister Clara “Sis” Hooper, brother-in-law Ted Hooper, granddaughter Amanda Looman and niece Susan Looman.  He is survived and deeply missed by his wife Elizabeth “Betty” Looman, his daughter Darcy Garza and husband Don Garza of Garden Grove, CA, his son Joseph Charles Looman, Jr. and wife Natalie Marchetta-Looman of Manasquan, NJ, son Robert Looman and his wife Betsy Looman of Bloomingdale, OH, and son William Looman and his wife Sherry Looman of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, as well as his loving grandchildren, Alessandra, Juliana and Joseph C. Looman, III of Manasquan, NJ, Kristen and Robert “Rudy” Looman of Bloomingdale, OH and Jenna, Nicolas, Tyler, Jacob, Joshua and Isaiah Looman of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, his sister in law Joyce Looman, brother in law Robert Takach and sister in law Gracie Takach, sister in law Yvonne Williamson and brother in law Ron Williamson, and many nieces and nephews.
