Renee Yvette "Lady Love" Mckenzie

May 25, 1959 — January 31, 2022

Washington D.C.

Renee Yvette McKenzie affectionately known as “Lady Love”, age 62, of Washington, DC quietly went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 31, 2022, surrounded by family who loved her dearly.

Renee was born on May 25,1959 in Weirton W.V. to the late Willie J. McKenzie, Sr. and Addie Mae Byrom McKenzie.  She was the 5th of the 7 children born to that union.  Renee began her formal education in Weirton, WV at Dunbar Elementary School and then her family moved to Mingo, Jct., Ohio.  While growing up in Mingo, Renee attended Jefferson Vocational School and achieved a certificate in culinary arts.  Renee graduated from Mingo High School where she was a cheerleader and a member of the track team.  She continued her education in Culinary Arts at West Virginia Northern Community College earning an Associates Degree in Applied Science.

Renee began her career with Marriott International as a dietician. While working at Marriott, Renee started a business on the side by introducing her love of Maryland blue crabs to the Ohio Valley at Lady Love’s Crab Shop.  Little did she know that soon an opportunity at Marriott would take her to our nation’s capital where Maryland blue crabs were in abundance.  She took a management position with Marriott International in their catering operations at George Washington University.  After several years Renee made a career change and joined the U.S. Postal Service where she started as a mail carrier and her final position, she was assigned to Express Mail. As a people person, she enjoyed this assignment very much as it allowed her to meet and interact with a variety of different people.

Renee was known for her smile, endless energy, and her love of others.  She would sometimes show up with flowers, but ALWAYS brought balloons for any special occasion or for no reason at all. Renee and flowers were almost synonymous as they both make people smile when you see them.  Renee had a zest for life and a childlike wonder for all the world has to offer.  She was easily excitable, and WOW was a major part of her vocabulary when experiencing new things.  She was not just a cheerleader in high school, but throughout her life!  Renee would cheer you on and take the time to cheer you up!  She was a very special soul and she will be missed tremendously.

Renee was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Geoffrey (Neal) McKenzie and Stanley McKenzie; Sister-In-Law L. Ruth Collette-McKenzie; Maternal Grandparents Caleb & Leilar Byrom, and Paternal Grandparents Lawrence and Elnora McKenzie.

Renee leaves to Cherish her memory Two brothers, Malroy McKenzie and Willie McKenzie, Jr.; two sisters, Angelene (William Keith) Sizemore and Valentina McKenzie; Sister-In-Law Brenda McKenzie; two nieces and a nephew she lovingly called her children, Angel West, Amber West and Willie James (Lorraine) McKenzie, III; three Godsons, William (Bootsy) Zimmerman, Robert Zimmerman and Carmelo Francois and her devoted partner Jean Zoema as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and  friends.
